Care

When should you see a pulmonologist?

Persistent cough, unexplained breathlessness or abnormal tests may warrant specialist review. ยท 5 min

A pulmonologist evaluates diseases of the airways, lung tissue, pulmonary circulation and sleep-related breathing in many settings.

Reasons to discuss a referral include a cough that lasts weeks, breathlessness that limits activity, recurrent chest infections, abnormal imaging, or known asthma or COPD that is difficult to control.

Urgent symptoms โ€” sudden severe breathlessness, coughing up blood, chest pain with breathing difficulty โ€” need emergency care, not a routine website booking.
